Programme goals & objectives, (ND): Mechanical Engineering

This programme is for a duration of two academic sessions only at the institution with a compulsory supervised industrial experience thinly sandwiched between the sessions. The course designed to produce Mechanical Technician Engineers for instruction and manufacturing services. On completion of this programme, student should have general mechanical engineering background and be able to do among other things.

  1. Prepare and interpret engineering drawings of machines and other engineering components
  2. Manufacturing simple engineering components
  3. Perform plant installation repairs and experiment
  4. Solve engineering problems by analysis and experiment
  5. Operate, maintain and service workshop machines tools and equipment
  6. Apply the principles of management and solving
  7. Appropriate level, management and supervisory problems related to the engineering industry.

Programme goals & objectives, (HND)

HND

There are two options currently available in the programme viz:

  1. Manufacturing Engineering Technology
  2. Power/Plant Engineering Technology.

Objectives of Manufacturing Engr:

The programme in Manufacturing Engineering Technology is aimed at the production of technologists with knowledge and skills for Manufacturing and maintenance of the mechanical Engineering and similar industries. Diplomats of the programme should be able to:

  1. Use and operate various machines tools and equipment in the production of engineering components
  2. Understand the principles and application of production management techniques
  3. Design tools and jigs and produce proto-type of such items
  4. Fabricate metal products using various techniques and processes
  5. Plan and carry out installation maintenance and repair of plant machine and equipment
  6. Manage materials and human resources in the manufacturing industries at this level.

Objectives of Power and plant Engineering

The programme is designed to produce a power and plant technologist for the manufacturing transportation and power generating industries such as NEPA, NPA, NRC, REB.

Diplomats of the programme should be able to:

  1. Interpret information in Mechanical and Technical literature and specify requirements for mechanical systems
  2. Install, maintain and repair industrial plants
  3. Install, maintain, diagnose and repair power generating units such as internal combustion engines gas and steam turbines, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, e.g. torklift, compressors and steam boilers
  4. Supervise mechanical engineering technicians, craftmen and  artisans in a manufacturing and other process and industrial plants
  5. Plan and execute maintenance's operations in industrial and power generating plants.
National Diploma (ND) Mechanical Engineering
