  2. Higher National Diploma in (HND), with options in electrical power/machines and Electronics/Telecommunications.

Programme goals & objectives, (ND), Elect/Elect

The objective of this course is to produce technicians in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering for the manufacturing, assembling, servicing and power generation, transmission, distribution and utility industries as well as communication, electronics, industrial electronics, digital electronics and instrumentation industries.

Product of this programme should among others be able to:

  1. Construct simple electrical and electronic circuits when necessary for use in modification of or as a part of a major construction
  2. Erect, assemble and install simple electrical/electronic equipment
  3. carry out routine maintenance and repairs of simple installations and equipment
  4. Select and use appropriate instruments to carry out simple installations and equipment under various conditions under various conditions
  5. Operate relevant equipment and installations when ever required
  6. Prepare simple bills of quantities and specifications related to electrical/electronic engineering works

Course Duration

Two academic years of Four semesters of classroom Laboratory and Workshop activities.

Industrial Attachment (Siwes)

To further drive home the need for practical exposure during the programme the students are expected to spend a period of four (4) months in an industry. The students work during this period is closely supervised by the institution and the industrial Establishment. The attachment period is programmed to coincide with the long vacation period at the end of the first academic year of the programme.

HND General Information

The Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology is designed to impart on the students specialised and usable skills in this field of engineering. There are two options currently available in the programme viz:

  1. Electronics and Telecommunications
  2. Electric Power and Machines.

Objectives

Electronics and Telecommunication

The programme is aimed at producing Higher Technicians or Technologies in electronic engineering for the manufacturing assembling and servicing industries. On completion of the programme the diplomate should be able to:

  1. Solve practical problems in electronic engineering by analysis and experimentation
  2. Construct and design complex electronic circuits for use in modification or a part of a major construction
  3. Erect, assemble and install electronic equipment and systems
  4. Carry out routine maintenance and repairs of electronic installations, equipment and systems
  5. Apply the basic principles of management to manage engineering industries.

Electric Power and Machines

The programme is designed to produce Higher Technicians or Technologists in Electrical Engineering for the manufacturing, power generation, transmission distribution and utilization industries. On completion of the programme, the  diplomate should be able to:

  1. Solve practical problems in electrical engineering by analysis and experimentation
  2. Design complex electrical circuits for use in modification or a part of a major construction
  3. Erect, assemble and install electrical equipment and systems
  4. Prepare detailed bills and specifications related to electrical engineering works
  5. Commission and operate relevant equipment and installations.

National Diploma (ND) Programme
