Academic Programmes:
  1. National Diploma (ND), Urban & Regional Planning
  2. Higher National Diploma (HND), Urban & Regional Planning
  3. Professional Diploma in Urban & Regional Planning

General Objectives: The Department of Urban & Regional Planning offers courses leading to the award of National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and Post-Higher National Diploma (Professional Diploma) in Urban and Regional Planning.

Special Objectives:  The ND and HND Programmes are designed to produce well qualified middle level personnel for Urban/Regional Planning Departments, Public Corporations, Local Government Councils, Consultancy firms and Research organizations.

The Professional Diploma programme is designed to produce full professionals that can be registered to practice (Urban/Regional) Planning profession at the highest level.  It is also designed to remove stagnation in the academic development and research activities.  Above all, the programme will enable the diplomates to meet the educational requirements of the Town Planning Registration Council and the requirements for admission into University Post-graduate degree programme.

On completion of these programmes, the products should among others be able to: (a) understand and analyze planning problems in any given area and come out with reasonable solutions, (b) understand the institutional, political, economical, legislative and environmental framework within which planning operates in Nigeria, (c) undertake field surveys, collate and analyze collected data, interpret and come out with Town/Urban and regional Plans.

   

Pre-ND Programme in Urban & Regional Planning:   This is a one year programme designed to prepare candidates who either do not possess the minimum entry qualification or could not score up to the JME for admission into the ND programme.

Entry Requirements: Candidates for admission into the Pre-ND Programme must obtain four credits in the SSCE/Ordinary level G.C.E/NECO which will include Mathematics, Geography or Economics, one science subject and any other relevant subject.

ND Programme in Urban and Regional Planning:  This is a two year course, comprising  four semester of intensive instructions and studio work with a supervised industrial attachment scheduled for the long vacation between the first and second sessions.

Entry Requirements: In addition to General GME entry require- ments, candidates for admission into the ND Programme must obtain four credits in the SSCE/Ordinary level G.C.E/ NECO which will include Mathematics, English, Geography or Economics, one science subject and any other relevant subject.

Higher National Diploma (HND) in Urban and Regional Planning: This is a four-semester course comprising of classroom instruction and studio work.

Entry Requirements: Candidate for admission for HND programme must possess a minimum of Lower credit pass in the National Diploma Examination in Urban and Regional Planning from Auchi Polytechnic or any other recognised institution whose programmes are accredited by NBTE and satisfactory completion of one year industrial training.

Post-Higher National Diploma Programme: This is a four-semester course comprising of classroom instruction and studio work.

Entry Requirements:          (a)  A minimum of upper credit pass in the HND examination obtained from Auchi Polytechnic or  any other institution whose programme has been accredited by NBTE and satisfactory completion of the NYSC programme.                      (b)  A minimum of Lower Credit pass in the HND examination obtained from Auchi Polytechnic or any other institution whose programme has been accredited by NBTE plus three years post qualification cognate experience and satisfactory completion of the NYSC programme.
